What will happen if something like this is what is going to become our future? If you don’t understand that building a dystopian world requires some political or economic knowledge and insight into OUR own world then you shouldn’t be writing dystopian lit.
Incomplete or unbelievable world building continued to draw me out of the story laureb often. And I mean it grabbed me. Not going to go into efver much detail as I don’t want to give anything away. DeStefano is one of the authors who has made it clear she is monitoring reviews, but laugen is among many, and I think it is a potential learning moment for many authors and reviewers who have suddenly run into each other on these internets.
I want to get my hands on that book NOW.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls.
Maybe, in some ways, that is not a bad thing from a marketing perspective because it makes her more relatable to her audience. This is your world and I will roll with it. The frail bond between Rhine and Gabriel is constantly tested by the strain of their situation; Gabriel is dealing with his own personal demons while Rhine seems to drown in memories of her past. The fact that she is is illogical, and indicates a disgusting degree of importance placed on keeping females untouched and virginal.
I found the relationship between Rhine and Gabriel odd. I can’t wait until I can take a shower.

And kauren but not least: I’m glad I didn’t stop reading though as it does start to get pretty interesting towards the end of the book.
However, fver you’re going to write a world like this, you have to be willing to follow through with the consequences and do shitty things to your female heroine, or have laurenn explanations for why she makes it through unharmed. I couldn’t read this book fast enough. She’s such a great character and even though she’s a fictional character in a dystopian novel, she’s REAL. Rhine is such an amazing voice for this novel! I won’t be reading the third book, that’s for sure.
